Hey guys sorry if this has been covered before, I had a good search and couldn't find anything!
I would love to spend a weekend at buller, but also i would like to camp. I know you are not allowed to camp on the mountain, just wondering where the best/closest camping site is? Is there anywhere around mansfield, or is mt sterling the go? cheers

There's a sweet camping spot at the base of the mountain (Mirimbah).

It's free, there's a toilet block out of the way, a river running past and it's a pretty sweet place.

If we don't get a place up there we always camp here. Good times to be had!

Is it far from the top down to Mirimbah, google maps tells me its 12 minutes?

Not far at all and an ace ride down via the road or clingsporn track.

If your thinking of riding down at the end of the day, the Mirimbah General Store's first ride to the top is 11am, leaves from the store next to the campsite and drops you at the top of the chairlifted runs. You might be able to sweet talk them into an earlier shuttle if there are enough of you (or you pay a bit extra) and you call in advance ;)

Free camping in the mansfield state forest just after sawmill settlement. entrance is on the left as you're heading toward buller. There's 2 thunderboxes and a table and a dirt road. Note that this is BEFORE the toll gates. Just after the toll gates there's another small campground on the right side (when going up the mountain) and the left side is No Camping.

Loving the grave dig! but it saved me from making a new thread.

Does anyone know if these campsites are still there, seen the one next to the river on the left when i went up last year, but never payed attention.
planning a trip up this weekend but want to confirm before i go up there!

The only camping spot nowdays is the one to the right of the road, just after the toll booths. They have put up a sign discouraging camping at this spot, but not really banning it (I don''t think Buller management are allowed to ban it, otherwise they probably would have).

They now say no camping on the Delatite river side of the road. Its a nice spot nonetheless. Its only across the road to the toilets and BBQs. My daughter caught a trout first cast with her Granddad the other weekend, so if that's your thing take your fishing rod.

We saw a fair few tents and vans camped at the base of buller this weekend.
Spewing we couldnt find any info about it before we booked a caravan park in mansfield.
All good we'll stay there next time.
Its looked really nice there and close to the river.
Cheers Cam

A couple of minutes before mirimbah there is carters rd. If you turn onto carter's rd, cross the bridge, a couple hundred meters on your left there is a campsite

+1 for camping at the base. I didn't know anythig about it and set up at a caravan park in Mansfield which was a bit of a bogan fest... Went off to do my road bike climb and found the camping at the entrance gates.

Did my roadie climb, went back and collected my tent from Mansfield (had a shower - may as well get some worth from the fee!).

I confess I didn't see the no camping signs on the river side... Ahem. Wondered why it was so quiet! Nice river and lawns vs. drunken bogans and screaming children.

The other side where less oblivious peop were camping looked pretty nice though, and there were a few set up across the bridge as well.

This thread needs some photos of the camping spots.
heres a couple my mate took from the trip.

Just our little spot where we parked, we had 4 people, but due to lack of people at the camping ground, we were able to spread out
