There would be no space for a bottle cage without them. I wonder what the reasoning with the tube shapes was. Along with the re-enforcing tubes, it looks like it was to reduce flex in the main triangle. (???)

Yeah, it does depend on how the linkage is "tuned" (setup), but it seems like most Ti dual-susp come with quirky linkage arrangements. Too many linkage-driven or yoked single pivots IMO.
