You won’t notice the tiny amount of extra height from the lowers being longer IMO. Run abit more sag if you’re worried.
Slam that seat forward in the rails!

Run the 30t front sprocket and the 10-42cassette, if it’s too heavy go to a 28t front. When are you ever in the highest gear at loftus anyway? There are alot of rocks to smack things on.

FOX Float X CTD Factory shock and FOX D.O.S.S. (Drop On Steep Shit) dropper post.

Haylex let me know that the shock is the original FOX Float X that came tuned for the bike (custom tune ID CNSQ). Like my old 2007 Giant Reign the SB66 doesn’t have internal cable routing for the dropper, but unlike the Reign it does have external routing to have the cable run under the top tube then up to the top of the dropper. The old FOX D.O.S.S. dropper looks interesting. 125mm of travel and it works in 2 steps, you press the black section of the lever to lower the post a little, or press the silver section of the lever to drop it all the way.

From factory, the bike had no proper chainstay /seat stay protection so Haylex bought the SB66c rear triangle/downtube protector kit and put it on.

However the downtube section was moulded for the carbon front triangle and doesn’t conform to the alloy BB. So he had to cut it to make it work. I think he did a GREAT job!

Frame, shock, post and lever are all packed and boxed up. Hoping to get my hands on it by end of play next week (wheels will take about 4-5 weeks regardless)!
 
When you posted asking about 26” bikes I almost posted about how much I loved my SB66.

Had and alloy one then ‘upgraded’ to the carbon frame. Turns out I preferred the alloy…

Anyway, I didn’t bother suggesting it because I thought they all would have cracked chainstays by now.

Slim pickings when it comes to 26" tyres out there but I found these heavy bois, they're chunky as and tubeless ready.

Aus. Post keep moving the goal posts. Frame was meant to get to me today, but tracking now says Friday or Monday. I'm very grateful that my LBS CCACHE has come to the party so everything else is on order too, will update as parts come in!

Heavy? Add 200+ grams (per tyre) in 29er spec, and further away from the hub the more you feel it. Those will be sick. 👍

Nice. I like their shape and thinness also. You don’t find the thrust bearing on the end craps out super quick though? I rebuilt one with proper parts, but after it died twice I’m looking for a decent way to run it without that bearing setup.

Thought I'd drop in to r/xbiking on reddit and yup, here it is. 11-52Y cassette on a 26" wheel.

My thinking, after riding with old mate who's on 26" wheels every week and my Chisel being on 27.5" wheels, is that there's really not that much difference between a 26" wheel vs. a 27.5" wheel. Old mate is running narrow tyres, but if you put fatter tyres on a 26" wheel there's even less of a difference in total diameter. What's really important though when thinking about how close a long derailleur cage will be to the ground is the radius.

The Yeti will take a 2.4" tyre (thinking a Maxxis Minion DHR II 2.4 rear and a Maxxis Minion DHF 2.5 front). The rear 2.4" tyre calculates to 681mm tyre diameter. That's only 23mm less in diameter and the radius (axle to the ground) is only 11.5mm. IE: The derailleur cage at the lowest point would only be 11.5mm lower than on a 27.5" wheel.

I've not had any issues with the derailleur cage being low to the ground (yet?!) on either my Chisel or my e-MTB (both with 27.5" rear wheels). I have brushed the derailleur body of both bikes on rocks but shit happens.

I'm thinking 12-Speed with a big range cassette is still on the cards for now. You could argue a 26" wheel doesn't need such a massive cassette to get up hills but I use the 50T cog on the steepest fire road climbs at Loftus, and the 26" wheels being only 23mm less in diameter makes me doubt a smaller 46T cassette would cut it (I suppose I could always get a sub 30T chainring, or just get stronger, or walk!).

A smaller cassette will be fine. Might have been 20 years younger, but I remember 30-36 on a 26 being just as easy as whatever the first 11 speed gear ratios were on a 27.5 or 29er. 30-46 maybe?

Got 2 pairs on my current bikes and no issues so far but I don't ride in the rain and I weigh 60kg's so that might factor? I'll keep an eye on them.
