I bought my 11yo son a used Trek Roscoe seems to be a decent ride apart from the forks which have a bit of damage stanchions have dent (replacement already on the way from CRC), brakes also seem a bit dodgy but I have some deores I can put on it.

It currently has 27.5x2.8 Kenda Havok tyres which are looking a bit worn.

I have a set of 2.5 Maxxis sitting in my shed what are the issues likely to be if I chuck them on.

I believe the rims Alex MD35 so possibly 35mm wide.

They will be fine - Inner rim width is 33mm - 35mm are recommended from 2.6 and up tyes but I very much doubt a 2.5 will be noticible

Yep. I have run 2.5 DHF and SS on the exact same rims.

Be aware the rims, while made of cheese, seem to have a softening agent added, to ensure a super floopy cheese. Yum.
