Good little read that, short travel 29ers are definately rad, i am a convert after decades on baby wheels, a Banshee Phantom led me to an Intense Primer (set at 130mm rear) and it's awesome. Your Trance turned out sweet.
I have spent time on a Levo Stumpy and a Focus Thron and both of those assisted to way over 25kph, more like 50kph I reckon. The Thron had a different module , not sure how the Levo did it.
Transition Trans am are on the upper end of cheap, On One are cheap, Ragley prices are Fair. I have a Ros 9, not cheap at all. One thing for sure, big wheels on hardtails rule for trail duties.
A mate of mine had some paint cracking around the lower head tube area on a 2 yo Stumpy and Spesh were more than happy to replace it even though both parties did not consider it a structural problem, gotta be happy with that.

I sometimes think about things in my Camelbak but the trails are littered with rocks and shit so ya just gotta ride and hope for the best.
Tough decision, the water bottle issue is a pain and would play into my choice if i was choosing between the 2. Oh, turdy is maybe not descriptive enough, i think baby turdy is more like it.
