As it sits this afternoon. I grabbed the last front brake from Pushy’s but still waiting on the cassette from overseas. When that arrives, it’ll be trail time. and yes, I’ll be looking for a dropper soon enough.

    The Stanton slow build

Some parts turned up recently and I decided to build the bike up this morning. Just waiting on a 51-10 XT 12sp cassette and the front brake. Shimano Au are telling my local shop that next shipment is due 2023. Looks like a visit to the bay is in order. Wheels ended up being Mavic XA35 Pro...

    The Stanton slow build

Hope Pro4 28 hole in silver so far but not sure on rims. Will be a custom build as all pre built wheels with Hope hubs don’t quite tick my boxes. I looked at Reynolds and was prepared to go all black until I saw the price for their i9 based sets [emoji15] The Rocky Mountain I had a few bikes...

    The Stanton slow build

That’s the goal for sure. It’s not as easy as it sounds though as most good parts are carbon and/or black. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Black Dogs and mental shit in general

Finding a role which helps in this regard was a biggie for me. Sure it means I’m not as high up the ladder as I could have been but my evening and weekends and time with my significant other are so much better off for it. That’s a win surely. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

    The HiFi thread

Vinyl, moving coil cart, 4 box preamp, a streaming transport, Class A/B monoblocks, crazy silver cables and electrostatic speakers with built in DSP It goes alright. Then, there’s the car with a steaming source, older school Class A/B amps, DSP/DAC/preamp, wideband drivers and more crazy...

    The Stanton slow build

Sold my very XC Trek Procaliber 9.8SL a while ago and picked up a nice Trek Madone with Zipps, etc. Got jack of that as I moved right in close to work and it started to gather dust. So sold that too. The best riding was always in the forest and I got stinging for something new and different...

    50Tx32 29er vs 45Tx32 27.5

I’m building a new Stanton Slackline. Previous bike was more XC (Trek Procaliber 9.8SL) with 50T on the back and 29er wheels. It climbed everything. I know the Slackline lives for going down but I hate porting up and like to ride instead of walking if I can. I’m wondering if I can get by this...

Carbon rims and low tyre pressures for commuting?

These are all great responses guys. Thanks. My LBS has kindly offered to let me fit a pair of 32mm Bontrager R3 to my rims to see how they go. I think they're wanting to see for their own interest as well. I've had my Maxxis Ardent Race 2.2 tyres up to 45psi and that was plenty hard (bigger...

Carbon rims and low tyre pressures for commuting?

I agree. I don't want to risk it either. One thing I have noticed after a bit of reading this morning is that there seems to be a general trend to running fatter tyres and lower pressures on the road. Last time I had a road bike things were heading the opposite way and I was running 120psi and 25mm.

GX Eagle - shitty shifting solved!!

I run GX and had shifting woes at first. The smallest adjustment would "fix" things too far the other way. In the end, I pulled the internally routed cables and ran new Jagwire double sealed teflon ones (same as the old Gore RideOn cables...

Carbon rims and low tyre pressures for commuting?

Hi peeps. I have a Trek Procaliber 9.8SL hardtail which runs Maxxis Ardent Race 2.2 tyres on Kovee Elite 23 Boost carbon rims. I'm looking to switch off the Maxxis for some Bonty R3 32mm road tyres when I start commuting. Trouble is, Trek tell me I really shouldn't be running more than 50psi...

    XC The new XC whip.

I'll actually be sticking with a Sram 11sp XG-1150 cassette as my rear hub uses an XD driver freehub body. Just pricing up XTR brake-set, 11sp shifter and mech right now. I may be listing a GX Eagle 12sp cassette, shifter and Level TLR brake-set with matchmaker clamp soon...

    XC The new XC whip.

Thanks for the comments lads. If I move to Shimano (likely at this stage), I'll run an 11sp XT 11-46 cassette and XTR shifter and derailleur. I'm also thinking of going XTR Di2 after running Ultegra Di2 on the road bike. Would appreciate your thoughts on it. The GX 50T at the rear seems...

    XC The new XC whip.

I went back to a hardtail after selling my RM Element. I'm thinking of racing again and thought one of these new 2018 Trek Procaliber bikes (18.5" for my 172cm height) would be good. Some of my favourite days out have been on hardtails. This one is the 9.8SL with the top mountain carbon frame...
