Larger AM frame for technical climbs? wife has approved the funding.

This is why i love what Rocky Mountain do with their seat tube angles, around 74-75 degrees on the new altitude (with HTA from 66.6). I ride a 2012 altitude in a L while i'm 6'4" i should probably be on a XL..however climbing has always been excellent, front end planted and plenty of rear...

    My front is FAT

A bike's ease of manualling isn't all about front end weight, geometry has a far greater effect. Specifically a shorter chainstay makes it a lot easier to tip 'er up into the balance point. So obviously your 29er has longer stays to fit the wheel in = harder to manual. So get the fat tire...

    Lysterfield or woodend

Woodend (i assume you are taking about wombat trails) is a bit nicer, no technical features like Youies. There is barely any elevation change, but i really enjoy riding there as you can just get into a zone of flowing through nice singletack in the bush. Good fun. Lysty has some fun bits and...

How to soften Marzocchi DJ3s (2008)?

I remember seeing a picture of a morewood downhill bike in south africa that had it's shock spring machined down on the external circumference, to remove material and therefore decrease the springrate, from what i remember it was to achieve a small adjustment in springrate because they had...

    Lowering Fox rp23

He's not referring to the air spring pressure that you adjust externally, he's is referring to the IFP (internal floating piston) that is charged with nitrogen at a much higher pressure. Maybe you could give a description of your bike setup and maybe there could be another way to get the...

2013 Rocky Mountain element vs Altitude

Hey I ride a 2011 Altitude 70 RSL, and quite like it. It sounds like we ride the same places, if it was my choice i would be getting on to the Altitude. The geo changes they have made solve some stuff i'd like to change on my current bike, though i tend to ride trails at a quite leisurely pace...

10 speed with 9 speed derailleur

Won't work, SRAM ratio's changed with 10spd. Only 9/10spd mix that is supposed to work is running a 10 spd shimano with 9 spd SRAM shifter (cheap way of getting clutch mech on 9spd setup)

    New AM wheel set help

Chris King hubs on Stans Flows or Flow EX... The hubs are the fantastic, bearings are silky smooth and the engagement system is perfection. The rims are light, wide enough and setup tubeless very well from my experience... If you wanna spend that budget, i'd be pretty keen to try the ENVE AM...

If you are using disc brakes it is a very bad idea, but you said tourer so maybe you're not?
