Merry fucking Xmas to you assholes
Fitting the itbs to the track xr4. Ripped the front off after degassing the ac because I am not an environmental vandal then draining all the fluids from the radiator, power steering and oil coolers. Actuator bracket fitted after the ac compressor fell off.

Test fitted the itbs to check what needed adjusting. Had to remove the far end throttle lever and grind some clearance off the power steering pump casting. Then the actuator shaft that I left long was snipped off and a bracket that is on the back of the starter that isn't on the spare motor was edited. Plug in the electrics and fuel rail and lo the throttles work using my cobbled together actuator and mounts/linkages!

Next step was the various vacuum lines. Found a manifold with 10 ports! And drilled and tapped that to take the map sensor.drilled and tapped the itb manifolds for lines to the 10 port manifold and scrounged/bought fittings for the egr and brake booster. Blocked off extra ports. Drilled the filter base for a fitting to run the catch can to and test fire. Yay. Bit hairy but no codes. No water either.

Tomorrow will see the revised drive belt set up, the condenser go and the front back together then we will gut the interior and remove the heater and evaporator.
Far out that is a lot of work. You know you can get Pulsar GTIR long block with it's fancy itb for a lot less than you have thrown at that engine.

But then it would be corrupted by Nissan germs! :D
Making the itb actuator and bracket was pretty simple mill work. Drilling the fucking blank airfilter base was another story but the longest job was making the jig to bore the trumpets to size! All that work was me for 5 hours today. Maybe 5 more for two tomorrow.

Old and hopeless
If you are driving to the track that limits your options.
Keep an eye out for V70A on special, they come up every few months. A mate drives them to the track and did a 1:47on them at PI with less than 200hp. Not the quickest tyre but quite predictable.
Jesus 1:47 isn’t anything to sneeze at, what car was that?
Ha ha, far out I love the Island. I'm too old and broken now, but phark I wish I could do some more laps there.

Going up Lukey is heaven.

I could do 1:50's on my 900SS with 82hp at the rear wheel... OK, I was getting a regular tow… a mates 996.

I did quite a few 1:51s on my own, but could do 1:52's repeatably. That was on Michelin soft slicks.

On road tyres, Pirelli Phantoms (the proddy race soft ones) I could do 1:58's.

Love the Island.

Yes, 150hp tune in stock form. 170hp in the focus st 170 with the bigger throttle body. Cosworth do them up to 350hp na and crazy force fed.

Fucking autocorrect is doing my head in tonight.

Mr Greenfield
Dunning Kruger style plots on a costs vs speed for fast cars when first purchased. Costs are per incident here odd job, not cumulative.

It’s actually easier in a car with little sound deadening, you’re more connected to reality with all your senses.

When you’re utterly detached from engine noise, road noise, wind noise, riding along like a magic carpet, that when it becomes like a computer game.

Hehe. Given that I can barely fit in the car, and I'm scared of it, you might need to change the red dots to costs of training/track days/tyres.

I'm surprised (slight humble brag) a 15 year old car still gets so much attention. I still get lots of pictures taken, and thumbs up from people. The eldest son most definitely approves, he's less excited about the amount of study required to be able to afford one.

Hehe never. The Disco will remain the main bike carting vehicle until the BYD comes in.

Scared, I’ve been there, took me three months into ownership before I had the balls to put it into sports mode and find the bottom of the accelerator travel, the difference between torque converter open and closed, a more aggressive engine map and making 1st gear available is like driving miss Daisy vs “Nelson vs Piquet ‘87 @ Silverstone”.

All that and the insurances’ extra 3 grand excess for the first three months of ownership.

% wise, what’s full comp insurance worth for an over 40 owner with no claims, always garaged for an R35? It has to be eye watering.

Oh and let’s get it out of the way now, love a bit of car tribalism.

No intelligent service station accepts Nissans.

One of my favourie quotes is from Ross Noble where he describes driving along a dirt road pretending to be Colin MacRae and then he turned into a corner and realised he wasn't Colin MacRae and ended up travelling upside down through a neighbour's paddock with the satnav asking him to return to the road.

Ultra Lord

Hurts. Requires Money. And is nerdy.

That explains why he sticks to riding trials bikes.

Insurance was $2.6k from Shannon's for $110k agreed value and mods. Not too far off what the Disco costs with NRMA. Might switch the Disco across at the next renewal.

Luckily I have a local independent GTR specialist; former head mechanic at Col Crawfords. He's a Mégane RS specialist too but I'm conveniently ignoring that. Can also service EVs which is handy.

Would the 2.3l from the Mazda MPS fit? I've seen silly numbers out of them with not a lot of work.

Yes but you can get the same near enough from the 2.0. Plan is to keep the motor to around 200hp at 7,000 and not worry about it exploding.
