Project Car / Motorbike thread. Let's see 'em.

Merry fucking Xmas to you assholes
Just found a JDM 2008 R35 GTR Premium Edition with less than 3,000kms on the clock and under $140k. It's bone stock and looks to be in as new condition. Japanese service book shows a service every 2 years until 2017. Not sure what happened after that.

I'm going to call the local GTR specialist tomorrow and I'm hoping he can talk me out of it.

Look out for entry into fuckwits thread shortly.

The fuckwits entry is getting closer.

The buying of the GTR as a collector's item is getting more complicated and expensive by the moment.

So my eyes have drifted to a bone stock example in Sydney for $125,000 with 30,000kms on it. And then my friend asked when was I ever planning to sell it. Being Smaug, the natural answer is never.

So lo and behold... for $100,000 I can get an absolutely stock body with 63,000kms hiding a 3.5 inch Y pipe and exhaust, HKS air intake, Greddy adjustable blow off valves and programmable ecu.

Get ready for some PSHHH PSHHH!

If you want to hang onto it purely for future value then unmolested stock has to win.

Would be a load of fun to drive. Yeeeharrr..

First a 3000km unmolested onto a 30,000km unmolested, and then a molested 63,000km...
How much deeper does the barrel go? Although this is the project car thread...
No no no, you have the framing all wrong.

First $140k plus interstate inspection, transport and Rego costs. Then $125k but in Sydney and rego till June. Finally $100k but a total sleeper that can do 0-100 in under 3s without me having to spend an extra cent or worry about racking up the kilometres and destroying its value.

Did I mention that $40k buys a lot of petrol, tyres, insurance, Sparco seats, race harnesses, track days, upgraded gearboxes, roll cages, carbon hoods and bodywork...

I can't believe they only sold 1000 odd R35s here, I know there are plenty of imports but I thought there were heaps more sold.

I should follow up on the R35. They are an amazing drive though a bit clinical feeling. Compared to the GT2 or GT3 RS's it was like a video game with minimal feedback but still thoroughly rewarding and immense ability. Unlike my drives of the porkers I did not push the R35 and maybe that is part of the feeling. But I wanted one. Especially after sitting in the Nismo version in the Nissan gallery in Ginza. Options we could only dream of were stock standard in that thing... But I would have the GT3RS any day of the week.

Chinese special?
How did you guess? The valve that broke had a fault that caused a crack to spread (beach markings once cleaned up) until it let go. Must have been vibrating back and forth a treat before it dropped into the cylinder and went for an even bigger ride. The valve seat ended up in all four pots having been mashed up and spat back into the inlet manifold. Reckon it is the worst I have seen and we used to destroy engines for the fun of it back in uni days.

Ouch!

I've seen it before, I always try to get Japanese made valves if possible. I bought some for an old Hilux a while ago, and they weighed about 1/3 less than the originals.

I would love a GT3 (or a GT4) as well but they are even more out of reach than a GTR. The depreciation would also be scary. Even a $300k 2015 model would still have a lot of deprecating to do, let alone servicing, spares, Cup 2s etc etc.

I also suspect that the skill requirements for the Porsche would be much higher and I simply don't have the time for lots of training and track time. I do have some training but probably not enough for a CAMS license.

Finally, I would probably get more enjoyment from the GTR on the road with less risk. Just driving around and giggling with my kids every time the lights changed, the car went PSHHH PSHHH and instantly went from 0-60 would be enough. I can't wait for the school run.

If you are going to get a JDM R35, make it soon. The REVS loophole that allows early JDM ones in is likely to close this year.
