Good enough to find a home in this monster:It is a good engine.
I think so yeah. I know the Nissan V8 Supercar engine was based on the Patrol V8.It was the basis for this too wasn't it? Don't follow bogan cars but I heard this at QR after they pulled out.
Those S80 in V8 AWD spec are a bit of a used bargain these days.My motor was used in these the S80 like mine was a great car but the issue was the weight difference wasn’t that much, though this was a second quicker to 100, still wouldn’t mind getting one even though they say they’re porky for their size.
Myself I’m currently carless and once surgery is done I’m looking to train/bike to work, as I recently got a promotion and now working at city based site, so hoping to commute for now. I would like test drive the V60 which same XC60 but reviews say it’s a lot better and may appease @Haakon not being a SUV and according to reviews has low sales due to that.

Volvo just doesn't do a shit looking car anymore. Even their SUVs are pretty tolerable looking. My motor was used in these the S80 like mine was a great car but the issue was the weight difference wasn’t that much, though this was a second quicker to 100, still wouldn’t mind getting one even though they say they’re porky for their size.

If you can find them, the ones I’ve seen are $10K plus but apparently are a great driver and very underrated car, those who know, know what they’ve got and want good money. Those S80 in V8 AWD spec are a bit of a used bargain these days.
If its a wagon its automatically cool.
Its pretty good from what I understand. Lots of Ford dna in a lot of them so nothing too whacky. And some of the best engines ever - in addition to the Yamaha, their inline 5 was legend and used in all hot Focus and Mondeos as well.was due to not knowing a thing about their reliability.
A mate of mine is hunting for a first gen RS4 and there's a bit of peer pressure for him to buy an 850R wagon instead. JFC they're not cheap though. RS4 might be more affordable soon..My brother had an 850 T5 wagon years ago, that was a rapid thing... He beat the shit out of it and had no problems. I'd love one of the yellow 850 T5R wagons.... Super rare and exxy now.
Yeah... They were super cheap for a long time and all got driven into the ground. Those that survived are very very well sought after now!!A mate of mine is hunting for a first gen RS4 and there's a bit of peer pressure for him to buy an 850R wagon instead. Renault did the sealed for life crap too and munched a lot of trans early in their lives.... Dead easy to change the fluid too, but no one every did.I almost bought a 2011 XC90 in the 4.4L v8
Only real issue are transmission related for the gen1 v8’s, stories of them completely mangling the aisin 6 speed boxes when not maintained as Volvo fell into the same “sealed for life” bullshit.
Bloody good cars. A mate is a spare parts guru for Volvo in a big Indi shop and is an absolute Volvo tragic.
The 5 in the focus and volvo was capable of some crazy hp numbers. Through racing the xr4 I got to know an owner of an xr5 which was punching out 500 horses in street trim. Couldn't keep the motor mounts from rupturing so I made her a new top mount. Then a new top mount mk2 and lower and gearbox mount when the lowers let go. Still going 2 years later and I have cast about 5 others for owners. The original upper is one of those oil filled things and when it splits and the lower mount goes the engine doesn't fit properly in the bay anymore. Some leverage and gentle use of really obscene words gets it back in there. Its pretty good from what I understand. Lots of Ford dna in a lot of them so nothing too whacky. I had a 2013 V40 2.0 straight 5 cyl for a couple of years, would probably still have it if it wasn't so low to get into. Shared the same chassis and some of the running gear as the performance Ford Focus of the time. Drove like it was on rails. My motor was used in these the S80 like mine was a great car but the issue was the weight difference wasn’t that much, though this was a second quicker to 100, still wouldn’t mind getting one even though they say they’re porky for their size.

Thought that was mainly on the Volvo trannies not Yamaha ones, did have a slight issue with mine but a fluid change on it and she was sweet. When I took to the tranny shop who specialised in euros said if it was the any other XC90 he’d tell me to keep walking due to the known issues with them but since it was the V8 it was unusual for it to have issues. Anyway after that never missed a beat.I almost bought a 2011 XC90 in the 4.4L v8
