Feet going painfully numb when descending

Completely off topic but why (don’t answer that it’s rhetorical) are women specific MTB names so naff??? Spec Rumour , Giant/Liv Tempt, Intrigue, Embolden, Pique, Scott Contessa. Sounds like the marketing department used a Mills &Boon novel for inspiration!
There’s even a Pivot Les. Are the ‘boys’ at Pivot head office having a laff with that one? I’d refuse to ride one of these stupidly named bikes just out of principal if I was a woman.
If I was given any of these in my size new, for free, I'd ride them. But I have no morals and enjoy sexy lingerie.

drink more water , could be circulation issue - esp as it has recently started .
also look into diet ,ie energy drinks , fatty stuff and alcohol.

never know as we age - different things going on - and yes I’m old .

Sadly beer , really knocks me around and protein bars literally made me shit myself
this is a recent development … hahahahahaha

ps , hope you find a resolution
is it artificial sweeteners in protein bars that make you do a ScoMo in your pants?

Hmmm, I’m not sure - but it was a violent reaction - I have had before with that style of food .
Approx 15 yrs ago , I lost a lot of weight eating protein shakes , low calorie ?
Even now the smell of fried food makes me almost vomit - I still eat it tho hahaha only a little bit

And again asi have aged , my volume of food intake has reduced - steak , no more than 200 g max .

But Im a fatty boom bah - okay I’m ‘ Robust ‘ and shifting the weight is super hard once you are over 50 - however I am transitioning this year to a only 4 days a week in the hope of utilising more time doing
a - things I like
b - more exercise
will report in 3 months !

The Peaks Challenge is a good illustration of what too many protein bars and gels can do to your insides over 11+ hours. The brown chamois/racing stripes are not uncommon by the end of the ride.

Nothing a good hosing down couldn't fix, I guess.
I think the cramping would be more of a concern for me...

It could even be the kit maybe, shorts or pants pinching on something?
I went to the chiro a few weeks ago and had some pain in my lower leg, sorted through some prodding around my hip area.

We have ruled out clothing and shoes as it doesn't matter what she wears the numbness is the same.
She has just upgraded her bike from her old 2014 Specialized Rumor to a 2020 Focus Jam. With the first initial rides she has found that the numbness is a lot better. I'm putting this down to the way more plush suspension on the Jam. The geo is also a lot more different too, which may also make a difference.
We will have a day at Maydena this weekend so that will certainly test things out as it's only when descending that she gets the numbness.

Keep us updated, good excuse for some to buy a new bike

Including Queenstown, Tas?
Queenstown is just monotonous :(

A day of Black stump shuttles at Derby can be a good workout too BUT...

7 descents of Maydena in one day can have lasting effects.

I'm getting old, did 5 on last trip but have always managed 6 or 7 on every other visit.

Nearly 6km of descending in a day will quickly reveal muscle pain, joint pain, contact point numbness, bike setup issues etc.

Hurts. Requires Money. And is nerdy.
Yes, and my back gets sore when I ride so I'm pretty sure a new bike will go a long way to helping. ;)
Can confirm new bikes fix back issues. I was having a terrible time on my transition scout, then the spitfire that replaced it helped a little bit, but when I picked up a husqKTM 300 I no longer have any issues! Totally back to normal, but my days of hefty deadlifts and “rigging equipment? I AM the equipment” are over. New bikes won’t bring those back.

The fact all these purchases line up exactly with when I first became injured and the recovery periods afterwards are irrelevant. New bikes fix all. Physio’s/surgeons are just glorified snake oil salesmen.

There is probably nowhere else in Aus I have ridden that smashes a person more in one day.
Yep, I agree. A day of shuttles at Maydena knocks the shit out of you. Your thighs and calves will burn, your hands and forearms will ache and the rest of you will suffer from all the spills you take. Great day on a bike! :p

6km? That’s rookie descending numbers in one day.
I did a couple of days of non stop shuttles at Maydena…then rode the GE Nationals with 1200 climbing without issue…and I wasn’t even that fit then (on a 140mm SP)

Couple of days constant shuttles of Mystic DH at Bright, for DH National. Bloody tough. Even WC riders complain about how rough it is.

My toughest day on a bike in memory..and I fit now…was Baw Baw DH. Got 13 practice runs in over the weekend, and a race run. Could barely hold the bike towards the end, and could barely walk for 3 days. 11km descent on Saturday, 8km Sunday.
Not a pissing contest, I love Maydena, it’s mostly above my skill level, but far from my toughest day on a bike.

We nearly always have a minimum of 7 days in Derby beforehand, this year it was 8 in Derby and 6 at St Helens.

We rode 25 days out of 28 days total last trip... my wrists are still sore, though I have a hunch it's handlebar position that caused it.
I've rotated them back but have not ridden it yet.

Years of lifting a glass to my mouth has been hard on them ;)

Well my wife got through her first Maydena ride unscathed. She quite enjoyed it actually, we stuck to the flowy greens and blues and did one top to bottom run. Her feet still get numb but not as bad as it was on here old bike. I'm pretty sure it's to do with how plush the suspension is compared to the old 110mm of travel she was riding with.
With pretty much everything having been changed out from bike, components and riding gear, I'm thinking it's some physiological change that's happened as she never had the issue in the past and it's only the past 6 months that it's been giving her trouble. Good to see that the new bike helps though.
