I have an XT M8000 derailleur in used but good condition if you wanted to swap, with a couple bucks your way?

I also like this notion on the 12sp mech on an 11sp drivetrain. I still don’t love the amount of B screw needed for a 46t cassette with m8000gs.
100% that they’re fully compatible? Some sources still seem to say they aren’t, but that’s par for the course on the internet.

I’ve only run one on 50t garbaruk and 52t garbaruk so still in range. I’m happy to try one on 9-46 e-13 and see how it goes

I haven't looked at 12sp at all. There's still a mid cage version? Designed for 10-45, yeah?

I’m sure I’ve read this somewhere before, but can’t find the answer easily....

Using Shimano 10 speed, currently XT 786 with RAD cage on 11-42. Want to go to 11-46 and stay 10 speed. Sure I’ve read that SLX/XT 11 speed RD will play nice with 11-46 and 10 speed shifter without the need for a goat link or RAD cage.

Anyone with experience that can confirm??

Doesn't answer your question directly, but the Deore M5120 RD is specced as such.. "Low sprocket max: 46T (1x10 speed)"

10 & 11-sp. pull ratios are slightly different, so although it can be tuned adequately enough, it loses a little bit of slickness. I don't know what trickery Shimano have done with the M5120 to make it work both ways. Alternatively, M6000 (now superceded but you might still find somewhere) or M4100 both have the bigger geometry derived from 11-sp. models and will fit where the older M780 series doesn't.

@moorey I just threw a 12 speed derailleur on the 11-46 cassette. A real slap together job with a 12 speed chain so I didn’t have to add links to an 11 speed chain. Set limit screws and b gap. Didn’t touch shifter adjuster or play to much but it runs fine. Not as smooth as full 11 or 12 speed set up. I’m not smart enough to upload a video so will text you one if it works

I just got the vid, and was like ‘WTF? Who is this?’....I have the memory of a goldfish...then came here to find this :D
Many thanks man. Might pick one up at some stage for a play. Reckon the 10-45 model will be fine with 46? You’re using long cage there?

Arvo off so took a few photos of different combos I’ve run. Mainly to show cage length and where they sit in granny gear.

This is a garbaruk 11-50 cassette with the garbaruk long cage(11 speed)

This is a standard mid cage on garbaruk 11-50(11 speed)
I never ran this on the trails as I’ve got a couple of long cages. It actually works.

e13 9-46 cassette(11speed) with xt 12speed long cage derailleur. Rode it like this today. Running 12 speed chain. Rode fine, only noticeable difference is it lags a little going up the first couple of gears off granny

garbaruk 11-50 cassette(11 speed) with xt 12 speed long cage

Finally some paradox porn. Xt 10-45 cassette (12 speed) with Xtr mid cage derailleur (12 speed).

All of these combos work. Some better than others. I have no problems running 12speed derailleurs with 11speed shifters/cassettes. If sticking to 45/46 cassette I would look at buying a mid cage. I’m going to throw a mid cage derailleur 12speed on the 9-46 cassette (11speed) over the weekend and give it a try. If going 50 to 52 teeth I’d look at long cage. I’ve run a garbaruk 11-52 cassette with xt long cage 12 speed and it ran beautifully.

I'm running m8000 with 10 speed 11-42 no problem and m6000 with 11-46. Haven't tried m8000 with 11-46 but there is a goatlink to suit.

Lemme know if you want a goat 11. Bought 2 but preferred the cheaper, shorter ZTTO versions. (M8000 mech with 46t 1-sp). I’m even running one on my 10-42, which doesn’t need one, but like the way it shifts running one.

While we're on the subject, do you know what type of goat link I'd need for an SLX Shadow (M670 non-clutched).

The extender cog (42T) didn't work out on my cassette so I'll be looking for a used 11-42T cassette just so I can sell a viable for the trails 1x bike.
